Alexis Hilliard

April 8 - April 29, 2023

Alexis Hilliard is an artist originally from Portland, OR. She received her BFA in painting, photography and video from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA. Upon graduation she began working for numerous artists throughout the Pacific Northwest and abroad (including Gage Academy of Art, at the Florence Academy in Italy & primarily for the American painter Bo Bartlett).

In 2014 Alexis received her MFA from the New York Academy of Art in Manhattan. She currently lives in Portland, OR and specializes in complex and colorful collages. Completely handmade, and fanatically pieced together from thousands of cut out photographs, art references and personal images, Alexis is able to create swirling seductive compositions out of paper. Her collage works are all traditionally made "cut and paste" style, and often take multiple months to make. The use of narrative and symbolism is explored through the use of historical references, myth and archetypes. She additionally enjoys using time-lapse to help inspire and share her creation process. Reflected in each piece she creates, Alexis aims to expand the merit and medium of collage, through a fine art practice.
