Alissa Dymally Williams: IMAGE IMMATERIAL

June 3 - July 1, 2023

Alissa Dymally Williams is a visual artist from Washington D.C., currently based in Seattle. She is a current board member at Mini Mart City Park, as well as a recent graduate from Cornish College of the Arts. Her practice has photography as its focal point. While working in a range of mediums beyond photography, she moves into an interdisciplinary practice that culminates in installation and site specific work.

IMAGE IMMATERIAL takes on the image by way of medium and concept. I am investigating the image by transforming one's perception of space, image, and object through an ongoing series of photographs and new media installations. How do we access the images we consume? Do we question the manner in which we consume imagery? What happens when that space to which we are accustomed is altered/obfuscated/transformed?

Within my practice, the lines between image and object are blurred. The image is by nature immaterial, it is thought, it is self consideration, it is object. The materiality of projected light not only re-iterates the ephemeral quality of the image as object, but it also emphasizes the ephemeral nature of what we feel while also lending itself to the illusion. In this exhibition, I address these themes directly through material and my own cultural consumption.
