Alex Graham and Simon Hanselmann: Bad Influences
November 3 - 26, 2023
Alex Graham is a painter and cartoonist from Denver currently residing in Seattle. She is the author of Angloid, Cosmic BE-ING, and Dog Biscuits (published by Fantagraphics). She has shown her paintings regularly at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles. She is currently serializing her next graphic novel The Devil’s Grin.
Simon Hanselmann is an Australian-born cartoonist best known for his New York Times Best-Selling Megg, Mogg and Owl series that has been translated into thirteen languages, nominated for multiple Ignatz and Eisner awards, and won Best Series at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2018. What started as a stoned riff on the British children’s books Meg and Mog, has evolved over the past ten years into a dark comedic epic that confronts small town poverty, the cycle of abuse, and the family-like dynamics we create with our friends. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter.
On loan from the artist, we present an array of Simon Hanselmann's original, pencil, watercolor, gouache, & food coloring paintings. Included are the back cover from Werewolf Jones & Sons Autumnal Grievance Annual, front & back cover from You Will Own Nothing And You Will Be Happy #1, endpapers from Below Ambition, paintings from his first coffee table book, Hypnotic Midday Movie published by Mansion Press, and more.
