Future Forward
February 4 - March 4, 2023
Future Forward explores the social and ecological dimensions of place, beginning with the body and emanating out into our communities, watersheds, political boundaries, and the cosmos. The first annual open call group exhibition at Mini Mart City Park, Future Forward features works by emerging artists with a connection to the Duwamish Valley: Amber Anderson, Brooke Cerny, Shandon Black, Eunsun Choi, Eric Pedersen, Erin Wolf, Alicia Murillo, Sasha Parks, Kerry Sutton, and JoEllen Wang.
The artists selected for the exhibition share an interest in social and environmental justice and their work explores the connections between self, culture, and environment. In the context of Mini Mart City Park – which recently opened to the public after 15 years of community building, planning, and environmental cleanup – Future Forward asks: how do we engage with the world around us, and what emerges as a result of those interactions? Mini Mart City Park is a place for the arts, education, environmental action, and community collaboration in the Duwamish Valley. The Future Forward exhibition is open on Saturdays, February 4 through March 4, noon to 5pm. The opening reception is February 11, 2pm-8pm.
